$1.5 million grant awarded to digital wound care initiative

Congratulations to Wounds Australia member and Sydney University and Sydney Local Health District Associate Professor Dr Michelle Barakat-Johnson for winning a valuable grant to help ensure more Australians receive the high-quality wound care they deserve. Dr Barakat-Johnson (pictured) leads a team of expert researchers that will receive a $1.5 million National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Partnership Project grant announced by Minister for Health and Aged Care the Hon. Mark Butler MP this week.The research project aims to test, evaluate and disseminate the Digital Model of Wound Care, an evidence-based, cost effective model of care delivered online. Wounds Australia is a key project partner and will provide strategic guidance on implementing and scaling the model nationally. Wounds Australia CEO Jeff Antcliff said it was an important piece of the puzzle in reducing the national burden of chronic wounds on the health system. “This is a vital innovation that will build the evidence base and harness technology to deliver better care to more people living with wounds,” Mr Antcliff said today. “We congratulate Dr Barakat-Johnson and her team, and we are looking forward to progressing the initiative soon.” Dr Barakat-Johnson said: “Our goal is to ensure that individuals with chronic wounds can promptly access the specialised care they need. By collaborating with partners like Wounds Australia, we aim to enhance national wound care standards for chronic wound patients.” Read more. |
